Under the theme “Towards Safer and Higher-Quality Nursing Care: Present Challenges and Future Prospects,” Al-Subtain University for Medical Sciences, the International Branch of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, hosted the Second International Scientific Nursing Conference.

The conference was organized through broad scientific collaboration and partnership involving the College of Nursing and Midwifery at Al-Subtain University, the College of Nursing at the University of Karbala, the College of Nursing at the University of Babylon, the College of Nursing at Al-Safwa University, and the Department of Nursing at Ishtar University College.

The conference witnessed wide academic and official participation from inside and outside Iraq, bringing together distinguished researchers and specialists, the Chairman of the Committee of Nursing Deans, and the deans of public and private nursing colleges. The conference was also attended by the Governor of Karbala, Eng. Naseef Jassim Al-Khattabi, the Chairman of the Education Committee of the Provincial Council, the President of the Iraqi Academics Syndicate, the Head of the Karbala Nursing Syndicate, the Director General of the Nursing Department at the Ministry of Health, as well as a number of hospital directors.

University of Karbala Presidency: Keeping Pace with Modern Transformations and Systems

In his address, Professor Sabah Wajid Ali, President of the University of Karbala, emphasized that the conference represents an important scientific platform for exchanging expertise and knowledge and reviewing the latest clinical developments that contribute to improving healthcare services. He noted that the rapid advances in the medical and technological fields require healthcare and academic institutions to keep pace with these transformations by adopting evidence-based approaches consistent with the requirements of modern healthcare systems.

Al-Subtain International University: A Continuation of a Distinguished Academic Legacy

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Presidency of Al-Subtain International University, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Fawzi Al-Qanbar, Dean of the College of Medicine, emphasized the importance of academic partnerships in supporting scientific research and enhancing the quality of education. He added that the College of Nursing and Midwifery at Al-Subtain University represents a continuation of the distinguished academic legacy of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, a leading institution in this field.

For his part, Professor Dr. Ali Kareem Al-Jubouri, Dean of the College of Nursing and Midwifery at Al-Subtain University and Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, stated that current medical developments strongly require the adoption of modern clinical practices based on scientific evidence to address future challenges.

Digital Nursing and Artificial Intelligence

Professor Dr. Salman Al-Kuraity, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Karbala, stated that the conference was convened in response to the rapid transformations in the nursing profession. He stressed the importance of keeping pace with modern nursing specialties, promoting digital transformation, integrating artificial intelligence applications into clinical practice, and advancing the concepts of tele-nursing and advanced nursing.

Government Support and Recognition of Nursing Efforts

The Governor of Karbala, Eng. Naseef Jassim Al-Khattabi, emphasized the vital role of the nursing profession in supporting the healthcare system, calling for the preparation and qualification of nursing personnel to meet the growing needs of the health sector. He praised the exceptional efforts of nursing staff, recalling their great sacrifices during the COVID-19 pandemic, and stressed the necessity of providing all required resources to empower them and ensure their rights to continuous training and professional development.
